CCYF Flag Football Pre-Season Survey

UpdatedWednesday August 26, 2020 byBill Sones.

CCYF Families,

Hope all is well with your families.  We wanted to provide you with a quick update on what we’ve been working on for CCYF programs, and specifically flag football, for the fall season.   We have been reviewing guidelines from the town, the state, and other youth sports as we outline the options for getting our kids back on the fields. We have been playing a bit of a waiting game to hear what was going to happen with tackle youth and high school football as well as whether the state would provide guidance on flag football as a “high risk” sport.  Here are some updates:

1) The CCHS fall football season has been cancelled and youth programs around the state have also been cancelled as the state has categorized tackle football as a “high risk” sport in this environment.  There has been no determination for flag football (we are going under the assumption, for now, that it is not classified as “high risk” - similar to soccer and other sports) so we are trying to get more information.

2) The state’s recent step back of Phase 3 also limits outdoor events to no more than 50 people per “event.”  This guideline presents a problem for the CCYF flag football program as we estimate that we have had 400 to 500 people at EACH session.

3) The cancelled tackle programs may present an opportunity for us to have travel teams for flag football for elementary schoolers and 7-on-7 passing games for middle schoolers.  These teams would have 2 practices per week (in the evenings) and play games around Eastern Massachusetts on Sundays.  This opportunity is VERY tentative.

Flag football’s initial plan was to begin on Sunday September 13th.  However, the Town of Concord scheduled the town meeting about the turf fields on that day, so our start date is still TBD.

Between some of the sports developments we outlined earlier, schools announcing ‘bubble’ plans, etc. we are interested in understanding your family’s interest in some modified flag football programs and your expectations for the fall.

We would appreciate it if you could please take a few minutes to answer a few questions by clicking on the survey link below.  Responses gathered from this survey will help us think through options and plan for the fall.
